Since Dave Hart's arrival at Tennessee in 2011, he has challenged the student-athletes, coaches and administrators. The ultimate goal of this pursuit is to rise to the top of the nation's elite athletics programs in everything that we do.

The Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence was developed to create a road map for achieving this collective goal. Through their leadership support, members of the campaign are playing a key role in enhancing lives of the University of Tennessee’s student-athletes while investing in this shared vision through annual, capital, planned giving and endowment gifts.

Campaign Overview and Funding Goals

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the athletics department continues to take significant steps forward through the Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence. Within the campaign, Pat Summitt Plaza was constructed and now serves as the centerpiece of the Lake Loudoun beautification project. The Joan Cronan Volleyball Center opened in the fall of 2014 and provides a first-class home for the volleyball program. Launched in conjunction with the SEC Network, the Ray and Lucy Hand Digital Studio serves as a “showpiece” for our department for recruiting, network productions, coaches’ shows, and many other events.

Looking ahead, site preparation has begun for the Haslam Field expansion and new residence hall project. The design work has started and construction will commence this spring on the renovations of the men’s and women’s basketball locker rooms in Thompson-Boling Arena. Improvements to the Wayne G. Basler Boathouse are underway along with the Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium and Barksdale Tennis Stadium. Future renovations are also planned for the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center. The Phase II priorities include the completion of the Day Golf Practice facility, the addition of the Warren and Pat Carmichael Sports Science Lab, and the continuation of the Neyland Stadium Master Plan.

The Annual Fund goal for the Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence is $66 million over three years, or $22 million per year. Donors making annual gifts to the Tennessee Fund represent a significant portion of the campaign.

In addition to annual giving and capital giving, many donors choose to support University of Tennessee athletics by thoughtful estate planning and are recognized in the “Tennessee Always” program. Planned giving not only encourages student-athletes today, but creates opportunities for generations to come. There are many ways to give through options like appreciated real estate, stock and mutual funds, charitable trusts, and much more. These commitments carry special opportunities including named recognition of your gifts, invitation to special events hosted by the UT Athletic Department, and a legacy that will always be a part of Tennessee. The Planned Giving goal for the Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence is $10 million in new documented commitments.

The educational initiative components of the Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence include endowments and the SouthEast Bank Renewing Academic Commitment (RAC) Program. The funding goal is $5 million, and these funds will have a direct impact on supporting student-athlete scholarships as well as creating scholarship opportunities for student-athletes to return to campus to complete their degree.

As we enter the final year of the Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence, please consider what role you can play by making an investment in our future and the experiences of our student-athletes. Through your leadership support, you can assist Tennessee athletics in our pursuit of comprehensive excellence.
